Welcome to Lethbridge Crime Stoppers!
The Crime Stoppers Association of Southern Alberta is a charitable, not-for-profit organization serving a large area of southern Alberta.
Crime Stoppers relies on the financial support of the community to deliver its programs and services. The Association is governed by a volunteer board, administered by staff and service volunteers, and works in cooperation with the media, the Lethbridge Police Service and the RCMP.
The Board pays out awards to individuals who provide tips to the Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-TIPS line or via the internet.
Anonymity of the tipster is the foundation of the program.
To ensure the anonymity of the tipster, they are given a code number. Once the "TIPS" information is evaluated, a police investigator is given the information to act upon. If the information is of value and results in an arrest, the details of the crime and arrest are brought to the Awards Committee of the Board for an award decision.
The tipster calls back on the TIPS line, identifies him or herself by the code number and is advised to pick up his or her award. All awards are dispensed by a civilian company and no attempt is made to identify the tipster.
